2001 Kioti DK45
Hi All,

I've searched, read, searched and read till I was red in the face. I have a 2001 Kioti DK45 and I'm having 2 problems..

Problem 1: When I move the shuttle shift into gear it sometimes doesn't engage forward. Sometimes it does engage if I move from rev to fwd a couple of times. AND sometimes when I'm moving forward, it jumps out of gear. If I hold the shuttle lever in the forward position, it's ok...

Problem 2: I figured that I could still use the tractor and bungie the shuttle lever to hold it in fwd so I can use the bush hog in the field. Well I hooked the hog up and presses the green button. I have power to the green button, but the PTO shaft won't spin....

Please help...I'm at my wits end and getting ready to burry it!...

Is the clutch correctly adjusted (IAW the manual)? Have you checked the fuses?

A year or so after I bought my 2006 DK45, it started jumping out of gear. It turned out to be a bent shift fork...repair fortunately covered by the warrantee.

Ok...The green light to engage the PTO was on, so I never checked the fuse...It was the fuse...Thanks! Now for the shuttle...

What makes the forks bend..

There was talk that the original forks were weak and bent if forced. But check the clutch first; it's a simple, cheap owner adjustment that's part of the routine service schedule. If the clutch is dragging the synchros may prevent full engagement. If it's a bent shift fork you are talking much more time and money. On some models forks can be replaced without splitting the tractor or major disassembly. I don't know about yours. What flavor DK45 do you have (DK45, DK45s, DK45se, ..)? What build year (indicated by first digit of serial number)?

Mine is a 2006 DK45SC. I think they had to remove the cab and delve more deeply into the trans (I got new sychros too). The mechanic showed me the new and old shift forks; the new one was obviously a sturdier component, and I've had no further transmission issues since 2008.

OK..So I did some research and found out that I can access the shuttle forks from the top of the transmission it's a straight DK45. So is it worth it for me to attempt to replace them, or have them do it for around $300? I'm mechanical, but concerned about things falling all over and not being able to get the thing together. What do you think?

I am not mechanical and don't have an indoor place to work on things, either, so $300 for a fork replacement would seem cheap to me...assuming no other parts were affected, that is a real bargain. When I take mechanical stuff apart, there is always a good chance they will never be correctly restored to operation (at least, not by me). Also, what am I supposed to do with the left-over parts after reassembly?

Another related issue with the older DK models is the range lever not moving easily and 4x4 selector hard to move in/out. The solution is typically a strong dose of PB Blaster or similar thin lube, sprayed liberally on the linkage or where any part enters the tractors guts. These spots don't get lubed any other way. My older DK40 doesn't have a "green button" like the OP's DK45, same tractor mostly.
