I recently had a tractor given to me from my grandfather's estate. It's a IH 424 that hasn't run since the late 90's. So far, I've put a fuel pump and tune-up kit on it as well as clean the carb. I've got the tractor running but the throttle linkage is acting weird. Everything is loose and free...
I've got a strange issue that I can't seem to figure out. I was using a box blade to push some large logs around and my 3 point stopped going up. I figured something must have bent or popped off in the linkage. I took off the cover to the hydraulic reservoir and didn't notice anything wrong. I...
I have a service manual, but it does not go into detail on much.
Does anyone have experiences with working on these brakes? Does anyone have the service manual, and would you be willing to copy the pages for rebuilding the brakes in the IH424, it would be a great help to me. I have already...
I'm having problems with the hitch on a 1965 gas IH 424 with PS and FEL. Previously, the hitch was rock-solid. It would hold up a weight box loaded with stone indefinitely. Recently, without warning, it now hiccups - that is, it raises, then drops, then raises, continuously. Whenever it does...
Recently purchased my first tractor, an IH 424 which starts and runs well for an old tractor. Knew when I bought it that there was an issue with the throttle...idled fine, but when moving hand throttle to higher range it wouldn't change and then all of a sudden would rev up pretty high and...
What is mostly likely the cause of the engine oil level being over full (yes the oil looks diluted)?
1. Hydraulic pump seal leaking and allowing hydraulic oil into the engine.
2. Fuel system leaking fuel into the engine?
The coolant level is not going down and the oil shows no sign of...
Lost all my hydraulic oil (about 6 gallons) about a week ago. Steering, 3PT, FEL etc kaput. Leak seems to be from the forward left side of the tractor, right in the area below the injector fuel pump. Plan on taking a hard look tomorrow but was wondering if anyone might give me a clue as to...
Hi all,
Purchased this 424 gas a while back from an estate. Was well maintained and need some odds and ends and paint.
It turned out pretty good. Runs Great. Guess I have to sell it and find another project.
Greetings Everyone!
I purchased an IH 424 a couple weeks ago, and it needs some major engine work. The mechanic said that it would be $1,000 in parts and $1,000 in labor. It does run, just smokes and has blowby at the oil cap. My question is: Should I have the repairs done, or should I run...
Having an issue with my tractor's hydraulic system. It's a 424, gas model with power steering. Went out with the bush hog today, mowed about 100 yards and lost steering. The wheel would just spin freely, and have no effect on the wheels. A few seconds later, the steering wheel got hard and would...
I was adding transmission fluid to my tractor and am a little confused. I have the 424 with front mounted pump, power steering, continuous running pto, and draft control. The operators manual says if you have all that it takes 17 gallons:confused: but doesnt the pump run the lift and power...
I want to get y'alls opinion on a price for an IH 424 tractor. It's a 4 cylinder, gas powered tractor. Roughly a 1967 model. Starter and generator both rebuilt, rear wheels (spin out type) and tires (both are Firestones) brand new last year. Water pump, thermostat, and radiator hoses also new...
I have to bleed my fuel lines on my 424 every 5 to 10 minutes, after i bleed them it runs fine then just dies. is this caused by a bad fuel pump? When i loosen the bleeder screws on the pump there is so much air in the lines it makes a hissing sound.
Parting out my IH 424, I was going to completely restore it, but found parts to be extremely hard to find therefore, I'm offering it up to those who need parts. 615-545-5229
Okay, I'm getting a little foolish in my old age.
A 1966 IH 424 with a gas engine, has a real heavy duty looking loader on it, with float.
Needs a waterpump, (and maybe a thousand other things,) but appears to be pretty solid, didn't want to run it long because the w/p shaft is flopping a bit...
International 424 gasoline powered C-146 engine. Started it up a couple of days ago, and the generator "tellite" is blinking. Obviously not charging because the tractor eventually died when the battery was drained.
Charged the battery, got it started, and put the volt meter on the regulator...
