Howdy. basically new to TBN. Have a problem with my Montana 5740 clutch needing adjusted it Slips in 3rd and 4th gear pretty bad. Hoping to see if anyone on here knows how to adjust it. Thanks
My 2006 Montana 5740 - cab, 4wd, loader 1900 hrs has a problem. The loader sinks down when valve (joystick) is in neutral or default position. When you jiggle the joystick it will often, but not always, stabilize and stay where it is. There is no external oil leak on the cylinders - I think it...
I have a Montana 5740 that is tuck in gear. the linkage is in second and shifter is in third. Can't get it out. Not much of a mechanic but have common scenes and access to tools and help. Any ideas from you folk would be awesome. Thanks in advance
Have a 5740 (bought in 2005) that has run great until the other day. While cutting, the tractor just choked and died. Then would not start - cranked and cranked - not start. Though it may be a water in the fuel issue - though did not have a appropriate lite on the dashboard. So changed the...

Pretty mundane question but the dipstick on my 5740 for hydraulic fluid has hardened and the rubber portion slides along the actual dipstick. If someone could give measurements to allow me to properly position the stopper portion along the metal shaft would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for...
Hope someone has run into this - My Montana 5740 is stuck in either 1 or 2 and I can't get it to shift. When I push on shift lever too hard it slips out of mechanism. Clutch appears to be working. Any ideas ?
Thanks
I have a pretty bad oil leak at the front pivot shaft. Any ideas?? Any help would be appreciated from . It seems to be hydraulic oil. New member , thanks
Recently when you shift into reverse and start moving there in a grinding noise from trans area - noise goes away if you hold forward/reverse lever back ! Is there an adjustment on the lever ? Could not seem to locate the rod that goes under the cab to trans !
Hey Yawl, our 5740 shuttle won't stay in forward position...like the synchronizer or top shaft has play...it wants to push back when you try to hold it in..the tractor can be driven around like this but not worked. Is this a design/material weakness or possibly heavy hand operating? Thanks...
This is a duplicate post under a more informative heading. Sorry 'bout the rookie mistake!
Good Morning. I am a new member to this board and, as of this weekend, a new Montana Tractor owner - 5740 with FEL. Thanks to all who posted before me. You helped me make the decision to purchase the...
Does anyone know how to verify the year of a Montana tractor ? I bought a 2008 5740c and I'm not sure it is a 2008. Does anybody know the changes that were made to distinguish a 2007 from a 2008 ?example a different grill ,
I like the tractor alot but I just found out the tires on the front...
I am close to a decision to purchase one of these tractors, dealers are within 50mi, the tractor would be used primary for bush hog mowing.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone that has looked at these two models, or your experiance with them, I am very interested in the quick hitch...
It doesn't snow around here much, so the stepson has never really driven in icy conditions. What the pictures don't show are the Jeep Wrangler behind the tractor with the 9000# winch. Neither one of us could quite pull the pickup up far enough to get the rear tires on the ground, and the front...
Sorry folks, I forgot to take a picture of the boom flail from the back, was more worried about whether or not I'd be able to keep track of the cutting head from the cab. Needn't have worried, almost perfect visilibity down to the extreme lowest reach, with no neck straining. Great job by the...
Hello All,
I know many 5740's are in use and wanted to get some feedback or reviews on how hey are performing. Your thoughts and experiences will help others who want info about this model of Montana.
I would like to keep this to the 5740's for now but do some other models soon.
Thanks,
Maka
Owners manual states that...When PTO selection switch is placed in "AUTO" position, if you press the main clutch pedal or the "hydraulic position control lever" moves up the arranged position during operation, the PTO will not rotate.
Any dealers know what the "Arranged" position is?
The...
This little beast showed up yesterday.....
Had a chance to do a little hogging and some dirt work. So far so good.
Is it true that happy tractor drivers get bugs in their teeth?...
I've been looking at the Montana 5740. Like everything I see but I'm a little concerned if it has enough power to run a 10 foot pull type Bush Hog. The dealer tells me the tractor is rated 52 hp at the PTO. The Bush Hog manual calls for a minimum 50 PTO hp so I'm sure it would run it, but what I...
