scotts s1642

I have resently obtained my wife's grandpa's Scotts S1642 riding lawn mower manufactured by John Deere. It has been sitting for at least 4 years. I have changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, spark plug, rebuilt carb, replaced the battery and still can not get engine to start...

This seems almost like a reverse-reality kind of thing, with an otherwise very good machine. Intermittent situation, evidently with my safety-ignition cut-off system: ignition will cut-off when releasing brake/clutch after starting engine. It will also cut-off when engaging the mower blades...

I was going to buy a Craftsman while they are on sale, but I want to make sure that I don't have a problem. I decided to look at Deere, and can't afford that. I am considering these two Deere made units, and am wondering if the Sabre is worth the extra $50. The Sabre has a Briggs Intek 17 hp...
