valve adjustment

I just bought a 850 4x4 (later model) tractor and would like to check the valve adjustment. Can anyone let me know the adjustment procedure? I read .008 each but no mention of engine hot or cold. Some list .008 intake and .006 exhaust which to me is backward. Anyone help on this? S/N 24406

I'm trying to find out if there is a valve adjustment on a Stihl FS-55 trimmer. If so what are the specs. I put a new carburetor on it, use 93 octane no ethanol, and it's hard to start. Fuel pickup and hose were replaced also. Thanks
