$.046 diesel ??

Yes, I've heard of it.. did you do a search? Someone here did a test of DSE and found it to be an unusual mixture of ingredients.. he didn't care to run it in his vehicles/equipment. On the flip side, I've talked with some people who run their trucks on it and claim no problems. however, .46 a gal? maybe not, you have to consider in the sourcing of materials (grease) and mixing up batches of fuel that take time... After awhile, it's still easier to pull up to the pump... just my opinion.... -art

Arthur,
Actually it says there is no batch cooking required. I guess you just mix the supplied chemical into the oil and presto, mystical, majical fuel oil !!!!!
I am skeptical for sure. I did do a search, no luck. thnaks for the info /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They had a special on the local TV news about that. If you are willing to get french fry oil in quantities large enough and clean it, it may be worth it!

The biggest trick is getting the used oil. I have debated "cracking" used cooking oil for some time now for biodiesel. I think it may prove to be a stop gap until some other form of energy is found/harnessed. Ethanol and BioDiesel are both good ideas but I don't think they are the answer long term. The used oil will be free only until the 2nd guy comes around asking for it, and as far as doing it on a commercial basis it just can't work (growing crops for use as biomass fuel). Fuel to plant soybeans/corn, fuel to grow/harvest it, fuel to process it, fuel to deliver it. I remember 7th grade physical science: You never get more energy OUT of a system than you put INTO it.
But, lots of things that weren't "Cost Effective" 10 years ago are starting to look more economical now. I am not knocking BioDiesel or Ethanol. I would run them if available. But I think they will only buy us time until we perfect some other energy source.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, got on a rant there for a second. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

hudr,

Do not forget about the energy input of the sun on the crops. Our commander n chief mentioned saw grass as a crop for ethanol. Heard some one on the radio saying that it has very few inputs, and the fuel equivalent might be as much as $ 2000 per acre.

true, very true. But... you still have to harvest, process and deliver the finished product. Like I said, I think these are all good stop gaps but I don't think they are sustainable on a large/global scale. We still need to find another (or at least complimentary) solution.
I wonder how much methane is flashed off of our landfills every year for odor mgt? How much energy could be saved w/ a simple residential solar hot water system? There are things we are going to have to do and choices we will have to make as individuals to affect the proper outcome. I am no tree hugger, let me make that clear. But I do believe in good stewardship.
One area we are going to HAVE to make headway in... Energy storage. Oil is relatively easy to store. So is biomass fuel. Solar? not so simple. What to do w/ nuclear waste long term (100s of years, not just decades)?
But we all need to be thinking "outside the box" on this one. What will our children and grand and great great grand children do? This is corny, but true: We only borrow this world from our children.
Sorry to rant. Wasn't this originally about cheap diesel or something? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
