on my kubota L2800 there seems to be some lag in the power steering.. when i turn the wheel its really stiff for a second and then lightens up and turns.. its getting really annoying can anyone lead me in the right direction to fix it?

thanks

Check your suction return hose under your right fuel/brake pedal, they tend to crack and leak air then start causeing problems with hydralics on L3400/L2800 models.

The hose is 1 and 1/2 inch in diameter (give or take) it turns 90* and very roughly about 6 inches long both ways. Pretty easy to change out and cost about $25. I looked for a photo but didn't find one... :(

EDIT: Found one, This is on a newer L3200 model without a FEL but it's close enough...

found it and its in really rough shape... after i replace it will i have to bleed the system?

No you don't have to do any bleeding. If I remember correctly there was NOT much in the way of oil that leaked out. I forget if helps to have it parked on a small side slope...

I used duck tape for a short term "fix" but if you have hose clamps and some rubber to wrap around it... that would be better. My dealer had it in stock since it's a common problem with this model...

If I was you while at dealer I would pick up an extra hydro fluid site glass while your at it.Its un-related to your problem but on those mdls they sometimes leak.Peace of mind to have a back-up ! ($13 bucks) !

already fixed that long ago. i got a metal one from a compressor shop in town. those plastic ones arnt worth even replacing with another plastic one. it was leaking so i took a look around the garage looking for one as i needed the tractor that day and i seen there was one on my compressor and it just happened to be the right size and threads. went to a compressor shop and got another one. i really recommend people to get a metal/glass one. also thanks for the finding my problem.. i was scared i would be blowing $1000 on a steering gearbox rebuild so ive been putting fixing it off. if i knew it was this easy i would of done it long ago. also it fixed problems i wasnt aware i had.. like underpowered and slow moving bucket. thanks guys

Again, this forum has saved me a lot of grief. This is a night before a big landscape job and when I went to load the tractor it was having this exact same issue. I did a search on here and found this thread. I had already added an extra clamp to this hose thinking it was leaking in the past. After reading this thread I went and checked it again. It looks like new on the outside, but when I reached around to the inside I could feel a big split. No time to go the dealer so I tried the duct tape. Problem solved! ... temporarily...at least I can get through the landscape job tomorrow without fighting the steering. This prolly explains the jerky loader movement that I thought was my imagination last week. Thanks everyone!

Hey thanks guys you nailed the problem right away, thought i was in for a trip to the shop, a little alcohol and duct tape patched it right up till i get the parts ordered (prayers are answered, even the little ones)
