Hey guys long time GM fan thinking of jumping ship.
currently I have an 08 GMC serria 1500 Ext cab. and I have to say the biggest purchasing mistake i've made in a long time was purchasing a truck with an ext cab vs 4 door. Anyways. I sat in a 2010 Ford F-150 4 door and couldn't believe the leg room in the back seat it blew the Goverment Motors truck away that i sat in the week before.
My question is what do you guys think of the new body style F-150? any known problems? hows the ride quality? How does it pull weight? My wife wants me to trade my Serria in on an Avalanche but i'm having a hard time buying mutant truck when I do so much truck related work from tractors to ATV's. I also like the higher towing cap on the F-150.
Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks

i'm also strongly considering jumping ship over to Ford for my next truck purchase. i'm just sitting back watching to see the direction GM heads and everyday they seem to be going the wrong way. great trucks, i have loved mine, i just cannot and will not support their "new management" and refuse to buy a vehicle that is made in China(the Silverado isn't yet but just wait. besides, did you EVER think the HUMMER would be?). i haven't driven the new f-150's or haven't spoken with anyone who owns one, but from what little i've read they seem to be a great truck. aren't they dropping the 5.4 from the lineup after 2010? thought i read that somewhere. i personally would go getcha one over an Avalanche. those have never appeared as trucks imo.

I have a customer who has a 2009. He loves it. He switched from a Government Motors Suburban with a 5.3 and he has commented on how much more grunt the 5.4 has and how it tows his dump trailer and 6,000# boat better. He really likes the features like the backup camera in the rear view mirror, large SuperDuty style towing mirrors, Tail Gate MAN STEP, and the integrated brake controller.

I think you will be very happy with it.

Just this morning me and my neighbor with a 2007 Cheby 3500 Dmax was commenting on how he is going to either get a Dodge or Ford in the next 6 months due to his kids getting bigger and the lack of leg room in the rear seat of his 4 door truck compared to the other 1 ton Diesels out there.

A Gentleman at work has one. I have rode in it a few times and it is nice. His is a fairly stripped regular cab model. It is nice and does not look like its a cheap truck. It does squat with weight in the bed, but what 1/2 ton doesn't.

Have to watch what you get with a Ford. At one time they had 13 different spring packages for a 1/2 ton. GM and Dodge only has a few. You can get a Ford 1/2 ton with a payload package that will only allow it to carry 600# then go up to as much as 2,500# or more.

This vehicle was dealer traded from over 400 miles away because it was one of the few stripped models this guy could find that fit some discount. I do not know how much weight we had in the back, but he was picking up rocks from my field and it did not take long and it was sqatting.... I am used to him doing it with his f250....

Its nice to know you have options with the Ford, but do you need 13 spring options???:D

I know, its crazy to have so many options. They have said that with all the options, colors, engines, trannys, 4x4, bed/cabs, ect, ect, ect there is over 300,000 variants of the F-150 alone.

They are streamling the process so each truck is not basically a custom made vehicle. They really only need 2 suspensions, the standard and a heavy duty one.

Sounds like the F-150 is going to be my next truck.
How is Fords leather my GM's always seem to wear reall bad and after 30K miles they really started to show age or the dye would start rubbing off on the edge where you slide in.

My last 6 have had leather and have worn really well but to be 100% honest I usually do not keep a truck or car past 50,000 to 60,000 miles.

One of the things I don't like about the new Fords is how high the side of the bed is. I feel like a little kid standing next to them. We have one at where I work, its 2 wheel drive, and I can hardly reach into the bed standing beside it and i'm 6 feet tall. The 4 wheel drives are worse. I think they just make the beds a little deeper.
