This is a replica of a 1923 case haypress that I built from blueprints. The main gears came from an old windmill pumpjack. It produces a 5x7x13 inch bale. I fabricated all the parts except for the gears. It is fun to watch it work.
There is a hopper above the baling chamber where handfuls of hay are packed into the chamber by the packing board. When the packing board lifts out a rectangular steel "packer",(attached to a connecting rod, connected to a rod journel on the bull gears forces the hay into the chamber. The bales are tied with 17 gauge wire. I can get about 14 bales out of a regular size bale.
