10\' 3pt rotary mower with a 65hp tractor?

I've got a 4wd 65hp mahindra and I am looking hard at a used 10' rotary mower for it. Is anyone using a similar HP to width setup? Soundguy weren't you saying you had a 10'? What do you think about it?

It has 2 blades and 3 gearboxes complete with slip.

Yep.. My 10' now lives behind my ford 5000. ( I used to have it behind my Nh 7610s.. but that now has a 15' batwing on it ).

My ford 5000 spins it fine. It's a 3pt model. I had to add another 100# of front weight in addition to the 320# that was already there, cause the 3pt made it a tad light in the front.. ok now though.

The ford 5000 is , according to the ford spec sheet, 70 net flywheel hp, and 67 at the pto. Mind you this machine was built in 1975. I'd guess your 65 hp machine will run it ok. i've seen 6610 and 5610 pulling 10' mowers.. though the 5610 downshift in the heavy stuff.

If your mower is the lift type.. you won't even need to worry about the weight.

My howse HD120 also has the slip clutch.. has been a great mower, I paid 2500$ for it new, and it has mowed lots of acers..

Thanks soundguy! Really appreciate it. Most of the time I will be using it for brush cleanup anyway and not full on grass mowing. If I have areas of grass like that I bale them instead (when my baler is working /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ).

I run an 8' mower behind a M6800 without any trouble. I would have gone with a 10' but then I would have had to buy all new gates for the pastures. That just wasn't in the budget this year.
