Can anyone tell me if $5500 sounds right for a 10 foot Bush Hog shredder. It's 2-3 years old, great condition, Has only mowed about 100 acres total.

Right for whom? Sounds good for the seller, but not so good for the buyer. :D

Given the condition, sounds to be in the ballpark. 100 acres is plenty of use for a rotary cutter, IMO.

Probably less than a week's work in all reality. Some folks buy machines to use.

TO the OP: Price a new unit of the same or comparable model and brand. The best way to put a value on used equipment is to know what the new price is. In that condition, half to two-thirds of new price would not be out of line from a buyer's perspective.

I saw a JD mx10 3pt in my area. I thought this would be a very good deal. JOHN DEERE MX-10 mower

Here is another: John Deere HX10 10' pull type mower

I have an MX10 that came with hydraulic slewing and rear height controls. I paid $5k for it from the dealer 7 - 8 years ago. The one in your post has neither slewing nor rear height controls so the price seems fair if not a bit "dear" for it.

I use mine to mow 100 acres of orchard and the slewing control makes the job go a lot faster. With a mower that big and heavy the hydraaulic height controls are important for me. Get that sucker on rocky ground and you can do a lot of damage to it before you get it up in the air!.

NB, on the MX10's they seem to be weak in the spindles, even though they are pretty robust chunks of steel. The problem seems to be the stump jumpers and the weight and circumference of the blades can cause the spinde to flex too much if the mower is bottomed out on turf. The flexing cracks the spindles and sooner or later the mower hucks the whole blade assembly.

I have had to replace both right and left down spindles once each over the last five years. The heavier duty 6 ft bush hogs from deer had that problem too, and they warrantied them, replaced the whole gear case free of charge!

I also have a medium weight 613 deer cutter. It has been through **** and high water over 12 years and still gets the job done. I bet there is not a bush hog around that gets worked harder!

To the OP, keep looking around, you can find implements much cheaper than 90% of new retail. There are "motivated sellers" everywhere.

The mx10 does have height control on the back. Manual on the 3 pt and hydraulic on the pull type. Older versions I have seen have the height control on the spindles for 3 pt. Newer 3 pt version has the adjustment on the mounting arm connecting to the mower. Is yours a semi mount? That would be 2 pt connection in the front and hydraulic lift in the rear. They still make that version as well.

What do you mean by slewing? Is that the ability to have the mower stay level when lifting the rear of the mower with hydraulic cylinder?

Yes, my MX10 is a semi mount and it slews left or right with hydraulic controls at the tractor seat. As well, the rear castors raise and lower the rear of the mower with another hydraulic cylinder. Three hoses and two valve controls plus the lift control.
