I have a 10 hp engine on a 5000 watt generator. Its about 10 years old, mostly kept inside, used little. I got it out yesterday and ran it. It did start and run on bad gas...I changed it out to new gas and it ran rough for about two hours. did not overheat that I could tell. It shut off and I have been trying to start it again. It will fire up and run about 3 seconds and shuts down again. Eveything seems OK. Fuel is still making it to the carb. I took the bowl off and dumped out the gas even though it looked OK. Any thoughts what to check?

Is your oil level too low? (your oil alert sensor is shutting down your engine?)

carb needs adjusting; adjusting screw under bowl; counterclockwise to richen. try one turn to see if it runs, when it starts to stall , does pushing choke on try to keep it running? Also; is shutoff under fuel tank open? And the old favorite; "is the gas cap vented"
I cleaned everything and attempted the adjustment and it still wouldnt run. I finally got a fuel pump and it ran for a few hours and stopped again. Ending up finding a newer engine on ebay for $75 and got that. Thanks for all the suggestions though....all good ideas.
