10 Yr Anniversary of Blackout, 8 States & Ontario Goes Dark.

Had originally posted in the Front Porch but then realized not everyone goes there.:ashamed:

On August 14, 2003, everthing went black in 8 states and the Province of Ontario. Over 50 million people were effected by that blackout that was caused by a tree branch touching a power line in Ohio. Do you remember where you were? I did not know about the blackout until my wife made it home from town as I was happily mowing the lawn and had no clue that the power had gone out.

10 years ago, I was in Texas, and given it was August, probably sweating a lot too!

We were sweating a lot here too, it was a very hot August and a/c didn't work for a day.

rolling blackouts for 3 days in town ...

around here it was out completely for 4 days ... the gen got a workout till it was up...

I had forgotten the 2003 Blackout.

We were living in Southern Maine then, the blackout didn't reach us. I do recall seeing the hordes of commuters walking home in NYC on TV, that was surreal.

The 1998 Ice Storm effects stayed to our north, but only about 40 miles. We were lucky on that one too. Another surreal image of collapsed high voltage towers, like Godzilla ran across Quebec Province.

Heheheeee, I was in Japan, where power stays on even during typhoons. Now, the 3/11/11 quake/tsunami, hey that was different. Tsunami especially, that thing knocked out whole towns, much less electricity.

The fallout from the damage to Fukishima will not all be realized for another couple of years.

I remember seeing news reports since our power was only out for a day or less, can't remember exactly but I know it was less than most but anyway news reports showed so much of the eastern seaboard as black. Then everyone in major cities remarked how they could see the stars and some never knew they were so bright normally.

WOW how time flies by we were in New Orleans on vacation with the kids then 11 & 15 and had to clue what was going on until we turned on the news and saw what was going on. We picked a great time to be away from home!
