I've got a 1026r with a 260 backhoe that I have been doing commercial work with and I was wondering if there is anyway to speed up the hydraulic pump flow by either turning up the pump, having it modified by a shop for more displacement, or replacing it with a higher flow unit? This may heat up the fluid more, but I think I could counteract that by installing a supplementary reservoir or adding an oil cooler.

It would also be nice to get about 10% more force out of the bucket curl and boom lift cylinders :) Any ideas are welcome!

I had thought about adding a pto pump and reservoir just for the backhoe, but it would be a tight, almost impossible fit, leaving the center pto as the only option. It turns at 1000 rpm if i am right, but i'm decreasing ground clearance by going this route!

thanks for the brilliant suggestion

Maybe you don't need a full size backhoe but really you should have considered a 2520 to start with if you need just a little more machine.

Agreed, by the time you spend the money to modify the thing, you could have taken the bath on the trade in and bought a 2520. The 2520 runs at a higher pressure, 2400 PSI vs. 2000 PSI and has 40% more flow.

Short answer is NO, the is not a way to do this. The pump is mounted directly to the engine so fitting a larger one would not be easy, plus all the lines and coolers are sized to match the OEM pump.

I'm new to this, but I dare say a cut is not great for commercial backhoe work, a scut would seem to me the wrong tool for the job. With the demand for that unit you should be able to get a good price if you decide to trade up...

I really don't have any interest in trading or selling it... at least not yet. I just wanted a free tractor, so I started working it, but now I am doing jobs that are a little beyond its design envelope. A bigger tractor couldn't cut my grass very well and would require a bigger trailer :)

Thanks for the free advice. I'm used to the motorcycle world where these sort of conversions/alterations are more common. Financially, it doesn't make sense for me to spend the money on a bigger unit because this isn't my day job. I'd still like a JD 110 though, so maybe in the future...

Just out of curiosity, can someone point me to the exploded view of the engine / pump assembly?
