Mowing 1026R Mid PTO/Mowing Deck Suddenly Stops Working

While mowing with my 1026 the other day, my mid PTO/Mowing deck just cut off while the engine stayed at the RPM's I had it set on. I throttled the RPM's back down, disengaged the PTO, re-engaged the PTO and throttled it back up to the recommended RPM's and started cutting again. It did this a few more times before I shut it down. Has anyone had a similar problem or have any idea what is wrong? Could it be an alignment issue? My mowing deck has been regularly serviced/lubed and the gearbox oil is fine. My tractor has also been regularly serviced (currently 232 hours) and lubed. Thanks for any help!

How did the engine temp loo? If the engine gets too hot, the computer will drop out the PTO.

I looked at the temperature each time and the needle was probably about 1/3 the way up. It was under 1/2. However, the temperature outside was in the low to mid 90's and the problem didn't start until the tractor had been operated .8 hours.

If the temperature was not too hot as you say then you might have a seat switch problem or something similar such as a loose connection. All the failsafes that your tractor goes through need to be checked.

Thanks, I'll check those today when I get home. I read where some of the PTO solenoids and temperature sensors have gone bad, hopefully that's not it.

Check your hydraulic fluid level also!

The hydraulic fluid is good. I looked around and all my connections seemed to be good. I called the service manager at my dealer, said he hadn't heard of this problem and I could bring it in and they could look at it. I tried it again today and mowed for exactly 1 hour when the PTO shut off. I started it back up and it did it again after about 3-4 minutes. Stared it up again and mowed another 30 minutes with no problem.

If it is in warranty I would let the dealer fix it.

If not in warranty I would check for loose connections first as it seems to be erratic in that the timing is all over the place. Might start by disconnecting the harness connectors and spray with WD 40 and plug them back together tight.
