I've got a question for the masses - my local JD dealer quoted me 20400 for the 1026R w/ the h120 loader, 60Dmmm, rimguard, & the 260 backhoe at the end of April. now in May Deere has the $750 rebate instead of the $500 rebate in april. i asked the dealer if they'd knock $250 off since i haven't taken delivery yet (actually i haven't even signed anything for the tractor - they just ordered it in for assembly based on my verbal) and they said they would not and their price quoted was discounted steeper than the rebate. so i have 2 questions - is it worth arguing over the $250 and is that a good price? before this rebate went up I asked the dealer to move on the price and they wouldn't budge but now i think they could move a little due to the rebate...is that unreasonable? i'm a first time tractor buyer.

Did you put any money down on the deal? Can you buy from another dealer?

I know it's easy to say but hard to do. I stick by my verbal commitments, and expect others to do the same. How would you like it if the total at delivery came to $20,650?

is 250 bucks worth the hassle and the relationship between you and your dealer? If you cause baad blood, you wont get the "free" little things you get throughout the years with good terms with your dealer. You will find in the end, everything will be a hassle with the dealer and will cost you more in the end because now you are on their bad side. Again, is 250 bucks worth the fight? To me, it wouldnt be

Rebates are owed to the customer. If they go up or down same with ordering a car you get the rebates from time of delivery not when you order it I think the dealer is wrong here and if Jd new about them pocketing the rebates they will have something to say about rebates are for customers not dealer profit. When I bought my 4520 it was a mid month order and he called and told me the rebates went up on the first that's what should of happened I would not buy from a shady dealer.

20400 is a darn good price. That has got to be over 15% off retail and probably more like 18% off. I got what you are getting plus iMatch, independent lift, and auto PTO coupler for the MMM but I paid 21800 and thought I was getting a fair deal, but I knew I was not getting a great deal. My addtional stuff would add around 600 retail. For what you are getting if for I am really wondering if your dealer priced it right. Sounds like he screwed up.
Take it and run!

My opinion..

Is that 25.4% off list price?

25.4% is pretty darn nice. i'm looking at about 18% off list price including w/ all the roll on/off charges and freight. They also are doing a free delivery.

I agree w/ many of your posts - is $250 worth it - probably not....but i do think rebates need to go to the customer. I thought about calling JD directly and ask about the rebate and then go back to the dealer but it's only $250.

i did contact the next closest dealer and got a price from them as well - theirs was significantly higher which seemed strange to me.

I will most likely be using this dealer and location for any parts and service so i want to keep a good relationship w/ them.

Thanks for all the input!

That was the list price minus all discounts and rebates but I have bought a ferris is2500 a gator 825i and a 4520 cab in less than a year so he took care of me on the tractor

If the other dealer you called was significantly higher, sounds like you got a great deal in the first place.........as the saying goes, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth".

I know it sort of leaves a funny taste in your mouth when the rebate increases, and it would appear your price should be adjusted, but really, it's the "Bottom Line" that counts in the long run.
