Fired up my 1042. After running for five minutes went to drive forward and it died. Now wont start. Charger says batteries full, but the tractor doesn't show any signs of life at all. No lights or power to anything. Just dead. Any ideas??

Did you check your battery connections?

yeah, I tried to check everything. It was really strange how it died immediately when I tried to move and then absolutely nothing after that. Fired up fine before. Fuses and connections seem fine.

You will need a voltmeter or someone familiar with using one to troubleshoot. Check for 12 volts at the battery terminals and then from the frame to the starter terminal. If everything checks out OK up to that point you may need a wiring diagram to go further.

Find the fuse(s). Replace the bad one(s).

Lights and ignition go through fuses. If your charger says your battery is charged, it probably is. Check the lighter guage red wire(s) from the battery. They should go to a fuse. The heavy wire should go to the solenoid, and that might be where the other feed wires tap from. If you don't have lights, it probably isn't a safety switch malfunction (at least I think my lights come on w/o the engine running, when they're installed.).

You probably have a master or main fuse that protects battery from rest of system. Could also be a bad ignition switch. Use volt meter and check for voltage at key switch terminals.

Somewhere between the battery and ignition switch there will be an inline plastic holder with a fuse in it. The fuse is likely blown or the connector came undone. Or, the connector in to the ignition switch has become loose. If the fuse is blown and you put another in and it blows, you'll need to trace the short. But, I'd hunch on that connector being loose.

Thanks,
I figured it be somewhere around that area of operation. Just thought it was really strange that it died as soon as I started to depress pedal forward.

check around the hrdro pedal to see if any wires may have been pinched by the movement of pedal, thus causing a short.

Yeah, we all sort of forgot to mention that lol! As it will be a high amperage fuse, you'll need to find out what shorted out to cause it to blow before you bother with replacing it. This is where a handy-dandy ohm meter comes in to play. As about all the electrical junk on the 1042 is right under the hood, it shouldn't be to hard to troubleshoot.
