Picked up the little tractor today. I now have a working PTO, brake pedals that come back to rest at the proper position and work, no hydraulic oil leaks in the rock shaft or at the pump, 5weights for the bracket (but still lack a pin), and the checks I wrote will make me work hard tomorrow to re-coup some of the expense.
The JD Mechanic told me that someone had been in the machine before, and had installed a snap ring in the wrong position, which caused a mis-alignment. So, a few spacers, rings, bearings, gaskets, washers, seals, a gear, a few springs (inside and out), and a whole bunch of labor later, and I was cutting some brush and saplings with the old JD cutter this afternoon. It is nice to have a tractor that works like it should, and a 90 warranty on the work performed just in case. The JD shop may be expensive, but the tractor came back cleaner than I delivered it, the mechanic took me out to the tractor, explained what he did, asked me to try out the brakes and PTO while he stood an watched, and answered a few misc. service questions.
Got some long overdue saplings knocked down this evening, bush-hogged the garden to get it ready for burn-down and a tiller, started bush-hogging the remaining sunflowers and millet in the dove field from last year, and took the boys for a spin around the property a few times.
Going to take Saturday off to try the inshore bite, but next week I'll finish cutting the field, mow the lawn for the first time this season, maybe spray the weeds in the garden and dove field, then I need to spread some lime and fertilizer. That should get me caught up around here, then its off to the farm to prep a couple more small fields for planting, and start discing some firebreaks.
I truly love to ride a tractor.
