10kw diesel gen project

Hi;
I did not want to tie my tractor up,for a week or more,after hurricanes knock the power out again.I have a disposable 5kw gas generator,but wanted something with better fuel economy,more power and better fuel availability.After the last 2 hurricanes all of the fleeing people created a gas shortage that
lasted for days.
I am building a 22hp water cooled Diesel(changfa 1115) with a
10kw genhead. I am also going to install a low speed alternator
to recharge a small battery bank.

Nice project, did you get the engine and generator from Joel on eBay? Or did you buy it from George direct?

I have been reading George's Utter Power site for a while.

Wow! That's a sizeable engine isn't it? Are you planning on making this a portable unit with the castored frame? I suppose you'll be putting in some type of transfer switch as well. Will it be automatic or manual? Thanks for posting. I've added it to my genset favorites but it will be nice if you keep us updated of changes to the site. Thanks, John

Thanks for the replies.
I intended to buy from George,but Joel had such a good
deal on E-bay I could not pass it up. I am buying the direct
drive from George.The small(2.5hp) Petters that George is going to sell looks interesting too.
I have the genset on castors so that I can keep it inside when
not needed(there were generator thefts last hurricane).I have no need for an automatic transfer switch.
