110 TLB Water Pump

I own a 2004 John Deere 110 TLB, Yanmar motor, obviously. I notice that I have some fan/pulley play indicating to me bad water pump bearings. I have no coolant drip that I know of, regardless, I want to service prior to failure or inoportune time.

I looked up the p/n for the pump assembly on the JD web site. Investigated pricing and found over $400 for new pump!

I could buy components and service myself as I have a shop press and plenty of press adapters. That's an option, but may still lean towards a new aftermarket or remanufactured to limit down-time.

Any members with advice or leads?

If you can replace the bearings yourself as mentioned that would be the cheapest route to take. As long as the pump housing looks good I would go for it.

As a caveat, with your attention to maintenance and detail, once you get the bugs out of your 110 I think you will really like it. It is a shame the tractor did not get the attention and maintenance needed in its prior life.

Thanks Buddy. I enjoy the machine much. There are, and were, nicer cleaner machines for sale. This one has a cab and all the auxiliary hydraulics and thumb and that is worth sooooo much to me. I spent a lot of money for this thing. I just want to get on top of things before it's too late or too expensive.

Mine is about the same with the cab and extra hydraulics a 2005 with 1300 hours on it. I have the 72hd bucket, 66" Frontier rock bucket, 48" rail pallet forks, PA30 hydraulic auger on the hoe and three quick attach digging buckets. Been very satisfied with it these last 10 years.

I found this to be true. A few sellers were selling what appeared to be the same pump and with careful visual scrutiny, looked the same as the 110. I figured I'd take a chance and got one at best offer of $125 and free ship. I did notice one boss on the Deere pump not on the replacement but it is not used anyway. It may be an alternator adjust pry point. Installed yesterday, finished, refilled and tested today. All looks dry! I noticed a lot of plastic smearing on the fan shroud and likewise fan tips. Some is probably the result of the worn pump but I think some of it predated me. Spinning fan on new pump resulted in rub on lower shroud. Upon loosening the six side screws for the shroud, I found that they were slotted and I adjusted the shroud assembly downward, clears now.

With the cab and heater core way up top, I clamped off the heater hoses as close to the pump nipples as I could before draining system. I didn't want to aerate the heater core and have to burp it. In fact, I didn't remove the clamps until the system was refilled and up to temperature to open thermostat. It was then I undid clamps.

Thanks for posting about the water pump cross reference, I am sure that will come in handy for us at some point.

I did not find it was difficult to get or keep circulation to the heater core. No problems with that so far.

Remember that there is a brass/copper washer under the temperature sender!!!

I had brought the old pump into work to pull rear plate, inspect, and see if housing was still good. I showed it to my co-worker as to the the play. At that time, I notice a brass/copper washer staring at me from the bottom of the temperature sender threads. OOPS! I had reinstalled all the fittings with pipe sealer. Fortunately, I had not added coolant to the system yet. I had allowed a day for sealers to setup. I pulled the sender out, cleaned all the sealer off the sender and pump threads. It is a one wire sender so the operation relies on resistance to ground with the switch being case grounded, hence the seat washer. I reinstalled with anti-seize. Guage reads properly.
