Hi,

I've searched the past posts and read up on the 110TLB. I understand the desirable options would be skid plates and front/rear remotes. I have looked at one at a dealer and had some questions. It doesn't have skid plates. I did notice a few small dents on one of the filters. Is what I'm looking at the filter, or a filter housing (see picture JD110_012)?

3pt arms - The salesman didn't think this machine came with any. He quoted me $1000 for regular arms and $1900 for top and tilt. I'm reading the owners operator manual but am a bit confused. Would the machine have to have a rear 3rd Selective Control Valve (SCV) in order to user top and tilt? This one clearly has front aux hydraulics, but didn't appear to be plumbed for any to the rear. Would I be SOL for running top and tilt?

Backhoe thumb - On the valve body on the hoe, there were two free ports. Could I hook into these if I wanted to rig something up myself, or would I need to buy a kit from the dealer?

In the picture of the hoe (JD110_003/004) I've put an arrow to an electrical connection that was covered in tape, any idea what this is for?

The pictures below are of a 2004 with 2000 hours. Currently at a JD dealer. Given the age and our environment (Ottawa, Canada) it looks in fairly good shape.

Thanks.
Greg.

Yes, that is the hyd/trans filters you are seeing not a housing, $1,000 seems steep for three point arms, used to be about $600 list (i have not double checked). Tape on the back I think is covering the b/u alarm, front aux hyd where standard, rear hyd outlets where factory installed option only, as was the 7 function backhoe. Can't say for sure about plumbing into the hoe valve where you are looking for 7th function, the foot control for that function and the hoses on the boom should already be there if it had the 7th function. im me your s/n and I will get you original build codes is you like.

Greg; 2nd what ctlguy has noted. If the hoe ain't got it on there.... you can't get it!

The rear SCV's (3) plus the 7th function on the hoe for a thumb or other hyd motor attachment (auger, etc.) are factory installed options only.

I ran up against that while working thru the process of buying my 110 and discovered a hurdle (factory vs field install) when comparing used machines versus new machines.

Of course, you could utilize the Power Beyond circuit and plumb in 2-3 open circuit spool valves in series for the top n tilt functions for the 3pt.

The real difficulty with that approach is creating or finding adequate real estate for everything to co-exist when the hoe is mounted. And of course, that does not resolve the lack of thumb and the 7th function.

I opted to go with a new machine as the used ones with all the options were within a few thousand of new prices and no warranty or good financing terms.

(Oh yeah, that's the back up alarm beeper! I unplugged mine... tape would only make it a little less annoying!)

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. There is at least one other local and a few others further away that I'll try to get a look at.

One question on those filters that can be seen in the picture I posted. Is there any way to tell a "factory installed" filter from a replacement? Looking at the rust on the filter where it has been banged up I'm thinking that could be the original factory installed filter. Indicating it might not have been maintained that well. My thinking "factory installed filter" = Black, OEM replacement = Green or some other colour besides black... just thinking out loud :)

I agree with the others, either buy new or find one with all the add ons hydraulics to start with.
I wouldn't have a 110 without the skidplate and the rear stabilizer cylinder protective plates. There are alot of hoses and parts on the bottom that need the protection.

About the filter, the new replacement filters I buy at the dealer are black so it would be hard to tell what is going on by color alone.

edit,
I can't tell whether you have the optional hydraulics for the rear, but the six couplers would be on the left hand side of the machine at about the same height as the taped off back up alarm you inquired about. On mine with a cab these couplers are hard to see. It appears to have the correct joystick for the diverter setup. Not a bad looking machine but you would need to verify the optional hydraulics are in place and that they work properly.

The skid plate can be added at any time -- it is not only a factory option.

Does anyone know why the 7 function backhoe is factory only? (I have it so I don't need to add it, but it is a curious thing.)

Good question, Dave. Although, removing/installing a new valve body in the hoe and routing the hoses would be a real chore! (As would repairing a broken hose.. not ever looking forward to that!)

The valve body and diverter on the underside of the tractor is quite an array, too! Running 6 steel hyd lines to the rear of the tractor with fenders, seat, ROPS, etc. would also be a monumental task! No way the dealers could come out on the labor!

The charge to the buyer would be scary!

If I follow that logic through to its conclusion, the 7th function hose and valve could not possibly be repaired, which is something I just refuse to believe, although it may be true.

Now it may be hard to do, but it just plain can't be impossible.

Good question Dave, next time I have the hoe off the tractor I will check into this. I agree with you that anything is possible and this should be doable. I suspect the difference is in whether the 6 spool valve will allow adding another section to it. Could be the 7 spool valve is a different valve altogether, meaning it would have to be changed out complete.
