Got a question about the work lights.

I bought a used 110tlb about 4 weeks back, I have been fixing it along the way and have not really put it to work yet. My question is with the work lights; on the back hoe side they are very dim. Do the lights go dim as they go bad? The front seem fine, or at least better than the back. I have replaced the turn signal controller; I now have turn signals, and also the light switch. I have replaced many parts so far and it gets to be quite expensive. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks! Tom

What is the voltage at the bulbs while turned on? If you are getting the 12 to 13 volts plus to the lamps they should be bright. Check your ground connections for the bulbs and make sure they are wired in parallel. If someone messed with the wiring and wired the two rear lamps in series they would be getting six volts each (more or less) and would be dim. An easy way to determine if they were wired in series is to disconnect one terminal from one of the lights, if both go out it is miswired.

I have a 110 with a Laurin cab and it has been a great little backhoe.

Thanks for the respond. I will start with checking the voltage, also see if they are wired in series or parallel, and go from there. I believe I have some wiring issues. When you turn the light switch to C Road position the back work lights are not supposed to be on, but they are, there is no difference between C position Road and D position Field. Also when the light switch is off and you turn the left turn signal on, the left side blinks like normal also the right side turns on but does not blink, vise versa if you switch to the right side it will blink and the left will stay on constant. I am not sure if they are supposed to work as such. Is it? I think I have some work to do here.

Thanks for your help; I will let you know what I find as soon as the rain stops here. We have had rain every day for the past week and it is not going to let up until Saturday maybe. This 110TLB is a solid tractor, I really like it.

About the turn signals, with the flashers on and blinking, if I turn on a left or right signal then the selected side will blink and the other side stays lit constant. So I think you are okay there. On mine the road position is with flashers and front lighting, in field position I have front and rear lights without flashers. I suspect that some people working on or near roadways need to have the flashers operate with the field rear lighting for safety reasons and your tractor was modified to accomodate this. But you still have issues if the lights are dim and not bright.

Well you were right about checking the ground and voltage. It lost ground so someone started cutting wires, they cut the positive going to the work lights (purple wires for the rear and white for the front) and the brake lights (blue), now this I do not get, they grounded the positive's that they cut going to the lights to a bolt on the ROPS, left the brake lights cut just taped them and somehow they got 6 volts feeding through the ground somehow and that is how the lights were getting 6 volts and were very dim. I cannot thank you enough for giving me somewhere to start; I am a machinist by trade and not up to speed on electrical. I did some checking with the meter, and allot of thinking and it took me a while but I finally put 2 and 2 together.

Thanks! Tom
