I just picked up a PD15 that appears to have had very little use. It came with a 6" auger. Come the spring I am planning on doing a lot of replanting to replace the various bushes / shrubbery that the deer seem to enjoy. I'm thinking a 12" auger would be great for my needs. As I'm not planning on using such a large auger very much I really don't want to sink a ton of $$ into one. Can someone recommend a reasonably priced but decent one?

The PD15 should use a standard 2" round drive. For an decent economy auger the 12" one from TSC should work.

It has the bolt on pilot, and replaceable carbide cutting edges. Its not the quality of a Pengo or a Belltec, but should work for you. If you have a ton of rocks, any auger will be a challenge unless you have down pressure.

Thanks Sportsman762!
This will be a 'go slow' project and it looks like that will do fine. I had a 'no name' phd on my previous tractor with a 6" auger. The biggest job I used it for was planting 100 4X4's in the woods for a dog fence. I think I found every rock in CT on that project :)

I looked up what a PD15 was and it looks like it's a Landpride Auger. From the pictures, it looks like a round tube connection as mentioned above. If so, then I also highly recommend the Country Line auger from Tractor Supply. Some stores also sell the Speeco auger, and that's not a good one. I've owned both and the Country Line is night and day better.

When I bought my Country Line auger, I was shocked at how easily and quickly it dug through my hard packed red clay. It was so good that I buried it over and over again. It is so aggressive that you have to only dig a few inches at a time by pulling it up before you get too deep. I try to dig six inches at the most, then pull it up to clean out the hole and then let it dig another six inches.

After my success with the 12 inch auger, I bought a 9 inch for some a project that I have since abandoned. I found that the 9 inch digs even faster and it's a lot harder to control, or stop it from burying itself. I doubt that I will ever use that 9 inch auger again, it's just too fast at digging!!!!

SpeeCo did the Countyline brand until late 2018 early 2019 if I recall right. The Countyline augers and diggers are now a YTL product. All are made by the same factory in China.
SpeeCo offered two lines of augers, the ones with the individual cutting edges, reinforced collar, and bolt on pilot are the better auger. The economy auger has one piece cutting edge, and screw in pilot.

I've had my TSC version for 15+ years (I think little has changed over this time period.) BUT, I'd caution you whether you can pick it up out of the ground it it gets stuck. Takes a bit of force to do this even with a 6 or 8 at my place. A few months ago I rigged up a hydraulic motor to the TCS augers and suspend it from the left front corner of my bucket. I use the curl hydraulics to run the auger. Now I have reverse as well as a fast or slow rotation rate. My loader has no trouble yanking out the digger if I can't free it up. Floats down or with downforce, fwd and reverse, easily to mount and dismount, easy to pinpoint the EXACT center location, and no more need to turn around and still try to run the 3pt control, clutch and throttle.
