Hello all, I'm looking down a project that will require 35+ 12" holes. I was thinking of a post hole digger with a 12" auger. The area is such that using the backhoe doesn't make sense. Open to suggestions:confused2:

I just did 25 or so holes with a 9" auger on my 2400 in rocky ground with no problem. I cant see much problem with going up to 12" especialy if the ground is good. Biggest obstacle with PHD's on tractors this size is the limitation on depth. 36" is the average auger length due to the 3pnt lift hieght so your not going to be putting telephone poles in but it's great for fence posts. If your just doing a fence a 9" hole is really all you need.

The PHD was made y SpeeCo. I got it from my Masey Dealer but I understand they are available through TSC.

Thanks for the input. I need to go at least 42" deep to install pillars due to a water issue this spring. They need to be right next to the current foundation, thats why I can't use the hoe. I looked at the one from TSC, they are getting $615 for PHD and 12" auger. They only offer one model at the store I checked.

I did about 70 holes with a 12" auger (albeit on my Kubota BX24) in heavy clay for fence posts with no problems. The GC should be able to handle that too.
The hard part was filling up the holes afterwards...

Measure twice before buying anything. Most will not get you 42" deep.

I agree with MMagis here. Most post hole diggers go 36" max. There is an optional extension available for my Bush Hog post hole digger. I'm not sure if all post hole diggers have the same size shaft.
