i bought a 25 gal shur flo sprayer to use with my GT. it is not on wheels, and i am going to tow it in my dump cart. i planned to use the 12 volt(cig lighter type) outlet to power it. the fuse for that outlet is 5 amp and blew immediately. the max draw on the pump is 7 amp. i dont want to have to deal with mess of wiring directly to my battery. is it okay to put a 10 amp fuse in the box for the outllet? the wires to plug look plenty heavy. i cant find anything in the owners manual about it. help pls.

I would guess that you could get away with a 10 amp fuse. 5A seems a little light for a cigarette lighter socket if they ever intended it to be used for an actual cigarette lighter. I beleive most of the ones used on autos have at least a 10 amp fuse. Of course if it catches on fire you may void your warranty if you still have one.

Test it out first. I bet the 5A fuse holds it own. If not, 10A should be okay, but I'd stop and atleast feel/inspect the cig lighter circuit to see if she's getting hot.

I was out working on my Chevy earlier and was able to put my ammeter in place of the lighter fuse to see what an actual lighter pulls, and it was darn close to 10A. Put 10A fuse in, run sprayer for a bit, then feel the wires up by the socket. If they stay cool, you are fine. If tractor catches on fire, put 5A fuse back in and say you don't know what happened /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif (Just joking, it will be fine) You don't want to go too hog crazy with electrical draws on these small engines though, as many only have a 20A alternator.

I understand the "lighter" outlet was designed for mp3 players, cell phone charges etc, not a cigarette lighter. Wouldn't think the wires would handle the draw of a sprayer, otherwise it would have a larger capacity fuse eg I'd be worried about the warranty is somethong else goes.
