#120 Roller chain heavy duty.

My drill has a 28ft chain on it. It’s old and has been breaking on me, it’s a messy pain on the a to repair.

Ditch which wants 3k for it. I don’t mind paying that if it’s truly better. Amazon had 10ft sections for $150 each including shipping(DW shipping would probably be more than that lol). I emailed them to see if they could make me a 28ft piece but haven’t heard back. With my old chain the replacement links seem to be as strong as the solid ones so maybe it doesn’t matter?


Some places list weight per pound I guess that’s the best way to measure strength?

Do you know of a quality chain source?

A few questions.

• Is it single or double strand?
• Is each link cottered or riveted? I know most of the 120 pull down chain on drill rigs I worked on were cottered on each link.
• Is it 120 or 120H (heavy).

The two best brands in my opinion are Diamond or Drives. Both are owned by Timken and made in the same factory in Fulton illinois. I do not trust the Amazon chain. It is amazing how cruddy cheap chain can be. Where I use to work we sold lots of chain and had tests done on the import chain vendors to see which ones were good. Its amazing how junky the bad chains were and how quick they failed during testing.

I went with a $546 chain. It weighed the same and ditch which couldn’t give me any info on who made their chain.

I’ve been using replacement links from the same company I bought the new chain from and none of them have broke in the last year so I decided to save $3k by giving them a try.

30ft of 120h chain is pretty darn heavy.
