I've been using my 1210 HST 4WD with FEL for years to move firewood and stone for walls and stuff like that. It came with a 916A belly mower. I'm stuck indoors with crummy weather and decided to investigate the mower installation. Here's my question; I appears I cannot engage or disengage the rear or mid PTO with the engine running. The owners manual and Ford shop manual mention disengaging the clutch, which I do not have. Is it possible they built it that way? That I must stop the engine, engage the PTO and restart the engine? It seems extremely dangerous to have a drive member I cannot disengage. I am just missing something which should be obvious? Thanks for any help.

Mike, It's amazing what happens when someone knows what their talking about. The starting safety interlock on that clutch lever has been bypassed since before I had the tractor. I never did know what it was for. Nothing was missing other than understanding. Now I know. Thanks for the information. Now I can proceed with fewer concerns. I have both the Ford Owners Manual and the actual Ford Shop Manual and Supplement for the tractor. None say anything about disengaging that clutch to engage/disengage the PTO.
