Rear Finish Mower 1215 & rear finish mower

Input needed

I have a Ford New Holland 1215 hydro 4x4 FEL with 1030 hours. I was wondering what all your thoughts are in regards to using this tractor with a rear finish mower. Currently the tractor is used at our hunting camp (trailer each time) to keep ATV’s trials cleared and brush hog small food plots and fields. In 2 years I have put 120 hours on it so it’s not getting used as much as I would like. We are in the process of closing on another home that has a ½ acre lot, most of it in the back yard and wanted to use the tractor as an over sized mower. I would remove the FEL and store it since it’s rarely used. Do you think the 1215 would be to big and heavy for this use? I can get a rear finish mower for $1100. The Cheapo lawn tractors are abut the same.

Afternoon Deaf,
I dont see a problem with using that tractor with a finish mower on a small yard. That tractor is quite small only about 1400 lbs so weight is not an issue. As long as you think it will be manuervable enough on that lot I would run with your idea !

Mornin' Deaf,
I think your tractor would work well on your lot with a RFM. I would get a mower that would fit around trees and plants in your yard. I just got a 6' finish mower, but I'm cutting 3 acres. I believe $1100 on a finish mower is better spent than on a disposable riding lawnmower any day.

I'd use the tractor for mowing your yard. I use a Deere 790 for mowing my 1 acre of lawn every week or so during the mowing season. The 790 is 24 PTO HP annd is overkill for a 1 acre lawn. However, it's my lawn and I'll mow with what ever I want to mow with!
Of course, mowing is just one of this tractor's tasks. Overall, it's a good fit for my property and chores (maybe a bit big...but one of these days I'll buy that chipper!)
