i have a 13 hp lifan motor on my splitter that has run well until today. I finally hooked up the electric start. it was simple, they give you a red wire and clearly label where to hook it up. The black wire was another joke, from the battery to a crimp connector. So with it all wired up I hit the key to fire it up, but no go. I check all my connections and check the battery cold amps and volts, all was good. I double check the breaker up front by the key and its ok. So I give up and pull the cord over and over and got nothing. So I pull the plug and check for spark and I got nothing. I am in year 2 so the warranty is motor parts only. The owners manual is a joke. The splitter is buried in 8 cord of wood so I can't get it out. I do not know what I fried and the worst part is I have no idea why.

I doubt you fried anything. Usually you just ground the coil to shut it off. So trace which wire goes to the coil and make sure it's not grounded. Pull it off the switch if you have to. Maybe something got bumped while you were installing the starter.

If you use a " battery ignition" key switch on a magneto ignition. You could have sent battery current to the ignition coil.

Does it have low oil shut down??

Ck. the oil and ck. "that"...

And try changing the spark-plug.

Use a 'known good' plug from an engine you know has spark.

Low-Oil switch is a weak point on Lifan I believe.

:wrench:

I believe I have the same engine in my generator and had the same problem a couple years ago.
It turned out to be a bad low oil switch. The same as a couple others on here suggested.

The starter was already on the motor. I had 2 wires to connect, the wire from the battery and a ground. When I hooked up the red wire from the battery I noticed the post it went to was loose but I tried it without the battery as wellI will double check the low oil sensor, it is reset but that means nothing. I thought of just wring so only the coil gets power so it would run and pull the spark plug wire to stop it or put in a switch. I tried an AC Delco plug just to see but it didn't spark.
Things only break when you need them the most.

After re-reading your post I think I misunderstood you.
I hadn't noticed your saying that it ran fine until you tried starting it up after connecting the battery. I never hooked up the battery on mine because it was always so easy to pull start. But one day it wouldn't start at all and finally my son in law figured out it was the low oil switch. Your problem may not be the low oil switch.

I went over it today and checked things out 1st I bypassed the low oil sensor, that wire runs straight to the coil. I checked the ignition switch and it was operating as it should. Everything ohmed out and I found nothing except I went across the ignition coil and got nothing. I am assuming the coil is bad. The customer service rep from Lifan is sending out a free ignition coil. But this still will not explain the electric start. When I ohmed that out it switched over and sent a signal to the starter relay. So I am at a loss on that one. The picture is the bad wiring diagram from Lifan , they have a few thing s wrong like the wire from the ignition coil is yellow
