1300D front axle parts?

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster

I have an older (1984) 1300D that had a front axle end shaft gear lock up and destroyed itself and cracked my spindle housing (ouch). Hoye has the gears but no luck on the housing (Part #35 on their diagram). Anyone know of other resources to find this item? It's a wonderful tractor and would be a real shame to boneyard it.....

Would be happy to purchase a complete axle if any are around as well. If I understand correctly, the 155D may be the same configuration?

You might be able to source a 2wd front axle, pull the front driveshaft, and run it as a 2wd tractor while looking for a housing. It ought to bolt up.

It wouldn't surprise me if a YM155/165 front axle would physically fit. Don't know about the drive shaft connection though. It might be a project. If you decide to go that route, consider that the internal gearing of those front axles might be a different ratio. You don't want differential stress between the front and rear axles. But if they are different ratios, that can be adjusted to some extent by by changing front tire size.

1300D axle update-

Well.... I have contacted all salvage yards in the US I can find to no avail. I work with a really talented machinist who was able to turn out the broken area on a lathe, complete with a nice chamfer. He then brazed in a large steel plug, then program his cnc mill to true and bore/face the new addition. Given the braze interface, I think it might be stronger than the original cast section which was quite reduced. Fingers crossed

He was looking at the other side for reference, and saw a little indication of a stress crack. A bit of dye penetrant revealed three additional cracks, so that one's toast as well. It'll get the same treatment.

So fitting this thing back up, I got a service manual from Hoye, and upon fitting, noted quite a bit of backlash ~1mm between hub bevel gear and double bevel gear. The manual makes note of putting a shim between bearing and hub gear, but none were in the original installation and none show up on Hoyes exploded diagram. Probably why it exploded right (that and me dragging around big logs with a loader it never was designed for

)? Any source for a shim like that or is McMaster carr the way to go? Any opinions as to what material this should be made from?

I'll post some photos to show the fix if anyone's interested
