I am putting a new water pump and pulley on my 67 135 continental, what holds pulley on the pump shaft?

I thought there was a c clip but I don't see one.
Thanks

Changed mine a couple of years ago, I remember having quite a bit of trouble getting the pulley assy off the water pump shaft. My 135 Continental Z134 water pump doesn't have a split ring but rather a set screw, at least mine did. I&T manual didn't show anything other than diagrams, which of course did show a split ring on the water pump shaft but is in fact integral to the water pump. No indication of a set screw in any of the diagrams, might have been a previous owners "modification".

One thing I do remember is that the "friction fit", even after having removed the set screw, had me looking for some other mechanical fastener. Inspection of the new water pump shaft eliminated any concern of a split ring or mechanical fastener prior to splitting the two. As it turned out, a night of allowing penetrating fluid to set, and a lot of patient persuasion the following morning, and I managed to separate the water pump from the pulley assy. Reinstalled the set screw on installation, been two years and quite a few hours, no issues since.

I managed to talk to a retired MF mechanic and he told me the pulley just pressed on. Unfortunately I don't have a press.

I am trying to contrive one with a bottle jack and some 3" channel iron.

Seems like there should be more than that holding it. I will look for a set screw but I didn't see one.

He also told me not to drive it on with a hammer , that was my first thought.

Hammering it on is not a great idea but if you don't have a press, make sure to support the shaft / impellor of the water pump rather than holding it in a vise by the pump housing, will transmit the load through the shaft and be a lot easier on the bearing / seal of the water pump shaft.

It will go together without having to pound on it. Clean it extremely well, gentle taps with a 3 pound hammer, with a bit of patience, mine went together and has been working great through the past two seasons.

Heating the pulley and cooling the pump will help. Put the pump in the freezer overnight, Heat the pulley to 400 degrees in the oven. Heat and cold can help a lot.
