massey 135 3 cyl gas
hi there everyone just joined the site. thought i would try to fix the problem myself before getting ripped off by the local repair shop. any way ive got a older 135 with a 3 cyl gas engine and a zenith carb. well ive been having some problems over the past couple months with it not running right or at all. it first started in the summer. i would be plowing or tilling running her pretty hard at first she was running great. after a while though she would start to run really rough and then just die. after she sat for awhile she would run great again for the first bit but then again cough and sputter and die. if i knocked the idle down a bit i would get a couple more minutes outta her but then she would just quit on me again. i took off the carb and cleaned her up and put her back on. it seemed to fix the problem for a bit but its been a lot colder outside since then. just yesterday i was running her hard moving some stuff around the yard and she just quit on me no coughing or running rough just plain stopped. after that when i turn her over it will catch then die right away. if i keep on cranking it will run with the started engaged but as soon as i stop it just dies again. it doesnt matter what position the choke is in either. im at a loss here fellows and help would be great.
thanks alot

Sounds like you are running out of fuel.

The AGCO exploded view of the fuel lines, shows a screen above the sediment bowl, as most tractors have. Also, it shows an inline filter at the elbow, going in to the carb., on the Perkins gas.

I'd check the screen, or pull the rubber line before the filter, and check for fuel flow. Then remove the filter, and check for flow there, if it is a Perkins gasser.

IH's have a filter on the "el" going into the carb, but MF doesn't show this.

3 easy things to check...

thanks for the quick reply, the bowl is full of fuel so i would assume the screen is clean/clear of crap? i will pull the line and by pass the filter to see if that makes any difference and let you know. thanks again.!!!

well i get it figured out! turns out there was a lose wire that supplied power to the coil i could here this clicking sound coming from somewhere when i shook the wire coming out of the ignition so when i moved it power to the coil would go on and then off i replaced the loose connection and all seems to be good now! thanks again i got work to do now cheers:thumbsup:

The quick stop without sputtering indicated an ignition failure, rather than gas. Just to be safe, though, add some drygas for winter.
