My 135 gas with perkins engine is leaking gas from the carb where the electric fuel shut off screws in. The threads in the aluminun bowl are pretty much gone preventing me from being able to tighten it enough to stop the slow drip. Teflon tape has helped some but not enough. Any suggestions short of replacing the bowl? This connection has to have some metal to metal contact so the fuel shut off will ground.

Try pipe dope with Teflon in it. You can get it at any hardware store or plumbing store. Just let it dry before filling bowl. I have used this in the past and it as worked for me.

I tried that. My threads are too far gone for it to work. The tape helped to take up the space between the threaded parts, the pipe dope wouldnt stay put. Maybe loctite will harden and keep it in place.

JB weld may work. Just need it to ground afterwards. Think I will probaly try that next.

I know you said 'short of buying a bowl', but honestly, with all the aggravation of continuous leaks from trying different things ..........is it woth the trouble?

No offense intended, just tryin to be realistic, or would something like a helicoil work?

Good point. Just dont have a dealer anywhere near here. I thought bout helicoil. Never used on before. A needle has to stick thru the hole after im done. Doesnt the helicoil have a piece of wire in the center of hole? Can you clip it out?

Can you use a pipe bushing, JB weld that in place and then solder a wire to the bushing that you can ground so your shutoff solenoid will work?

Pipe bushing will change the depth of hole possibly making fuel shutoff not work. I guess I just need to make the hour drive to dealer for a new bowl. I just dont have a lot of free time to do this.

yes, and it is required to clip it out. think spark plugs, the most common usage for helicoils. Plugs won't work if the helicoil center is left there.

EDIT: And you don't need a dealer next door............parts can be shipped to your mailbox from almost anywhere in the world.
