135 runs like poo all of a sudden

Well I got another doozy and about to throw in the towel on this old girl... today I decides to give it an oil change, so I go get new filter and oil plus a qt of Lucas oil additive thinkin an old tractor deserves to be cleaned out a little. So I get the oil changed and turn it over a couple times to let the new oil spread around, then turn on the gas started it up purred like a kitten. Then I shut it off to check the oil level it looked good so started it back up to put in the shed sputtered like crazy wouldn't hardly stay running backfire through the air filter. So I wanted to check the gas so undid the gas line from carb and it flowed fine or seamed to, put it back on drained fuel out of carb thinkin may be flooded. Nothing worked I'm stumped. So rewind over the last two weeks replaced plugs, wires, dist cap, condenser, rotor and took the carb to a buddy and had him clean it up after all this thing thing ran awsome o ya and i also checked comp for fun it was 150 on all three cyl. So I don't even know where to begin at this point the things wearing me out

Intake valve stuck open? Timing off?

Water in the fuel? Maybe run some SeaFoam through the gas to clean everything out.

Backfiring may be because of retarded ignition. It may be the new oil loosened some gunk that is affecting the governor or distributor. Pure guess on my part.

You did not replace the points..?? Might be worth checking to see if they are burned, or slipped.

Problem solved or at least I hope! The only thing I hadn't changed was the coil so I took the coil off and checked for resistance on the primary side hade 7 ohms, so I had the wife run by parts store while out grocery shopping and had her pick up new coil and an extra condenser just incase the other was bad, put new parts on and the thing purrs like a kitten again

I once changed the plugs in my car prior to a trip down to Maryland. Just for good measure. Halfway down, the engine started running like crap and did so until I got back home. Turns out, one of the new plugs went bad.

Mom's favorite car ever was her '69 Chevelle. We took a family trip from St. Louis to Minneapolis, so dad got it tuned in preparation. Got about halfway there when it started to run like crap. Limped along for a hundred miles or so getting worse and worse. Made it into a small town and it quit in the parking lot of a service station (remember those?).

It didn't take too long for their mechanic to check the "dwell" (remember that?). Turns out that the mechanic that did the "tune up" neglected to put any lube on the distributor points cam or contact block. Hundreds of miles of highway running had caused the contact block on the points to wear down enough to almost close them entirely.

We were scared there for a bit thinking we might be stranded in the middle of Iowa!
