Does anyone know the total weight of the 1430 trailer package? Does anyone pull it with a 1/2 ton truck? If so, how easily does it pull it?

I don't have a 1430, but my experience with a 2445 trailer package may provide you some insights.
The tractor itself, including backhoe, weighs in somewhere around 5,000 lbs. The dual wheel trailer is rated at 10,000. Between its own weight, the tractor and various attachments, I estimate total weight at 9,000. I would imagine the weight of a 1430 package to be slightly less, but not much.
A rough rule of thumb is the loaded trailer should not weigh more than the hauling vehicle although I'm sure that is frequently exceeded. I just opted to be more conservative in light of excessive hills and grades we must navigate in our western NC mountain community. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
We used a friend's Ford 250 Diesel PU with pintle hitch to haul ours. Turned out to be a good thing when we hit a couple of mud holes on my long mountain driveway (old logging road) where the extra torque proved essential.
Hopefully some more knowledgeable TBNers will weigh in on this with better advice. That said, I think you will find a 1/2 ton a bit light for all but occasional short hauls.

I have a PT425 that I haul on a dual axle car hauler. The trailer weighs 1500# and the PT425 is supposed to weigh around 1100#. With all of the implements and the tractor on the trailer, I imagine that I am hauling around #4000 pounds. I can really feel it on my old 1/2 ton truck(chevy 4x4 w 350V8, beat up and weak motor).
You might want to read up on the towing capacities of you truck, and call Power Trac for the weights. I'm sure they would be glad to help you.

According to the PT brochure the DH1400 Series trailer weighs 5700# which I understand to include the machine, trailer, and 5 attachments. The brochure goes on to say that 19 optional attachments can be added to the trailer--presumably increasing the weight.

My (1997) PT trailer came with brakes and I believe they are all now fitted that way, but if you are buying an older model, you best check it out. If so, you will need an electronic brake controller for your vehicle. If you are driving through steep hills and such, you will probably want more power than 1/2 ton....just my opinion.

Find out from PT what the trailer package weighs. If it is less than the rating on your truck (typicall max on 1/2 ton is 7,000 to 8,000 lbs if it has the tow package) then you are OK to tow it.
Would I want to tow a 7,000# trailer all the time with my 1/2ton? NO, Would I do it occasionally YES.
Talk to your local trailer hitch dealer/installer or truck dealer regarding the brake controller & also a weight distributing hitch. The dist. hitch will equalize the weight front to rear on the tow vehicle and make for a better (read safer) setup.

In my state (PA) trailers over 3000# rating are required to have brakes. I suspect this is true in most states, but you should check yours prior to making a purchase.
Check the owners manual for your truck. It will list towing capacities and any equipment required to achieve those capacities. If you don't have a manual a dealer should be aboe to help you with that information.
