14SB Blade Brake

My 14SB walkbehind's blade brake started to slip a bit at the end of last season. The replacement part is $150.

Don't mind spending the money but wonder how long other stuff lasts like the differential drive, for instance.

How many have replaced the blade brake assembly and had rest last okay.

I started it up to use up the gasoline before loading it on the pickup to take to metal recycling. Blade brake didn't slip at all. Guess it's good to go a bit longer.

Our handyman was here doing something else. While he was here, I emptied the 14SB of liquids and sat in back of the pickup to load it to take it to the metal recycling place. The blade brake had gotten very bad at slipping. Our handyman said he'd take it to either keep it or fix it and bring in back, just us paying for time and parts. He did.

He put washers behind the bolts holding the lower clutch assembly in place. This pushed it up enough to enable both sides of the blade brake assembly to grip the clutch plate hard. Works fine now.

Turned out he put the washers holding the blade on behind the blade. Did nothing at all. Think rust on the clutch made the blade work for about 1/2 or so the season. Didn't use it much. Have a Honda and rechargeable electric.

Now, it's slipping badly again. The handyman took it and put a couple screws into the assembly. All it did was lock it up to the stationary part of the blade brake. Couldn't start the blade. I removed the screws. Am investigating online any alternatives. Not worth buying another blade brake. Not even sure I can get the old one off.
