I am replacing the chains on my newly aquired John Deere 14T baler...
The one at the front near the slip clutch went on fine.
The one that drives the feeder arms though was much tougher...The old chain was 42.5 links of # 60 chain, I tried 43 links of # 60 chain and it was to long ( I tried that thinking the previous owner might have taken a link out and put in a half link to shorten it ). I then tried 42.5 links and I had to heat the chain on my gas grill to get it connected...it was that snug.
Is this normal? I know the chain will stretch a bit once I start using it but sheesh....
Oh, and the reason I tried the different links of chain was that my JD parts guy told me it was 66 links of # 50 chain.....the JD website said 68 links of # 50 chain.
So either someone put different sprockets and chain on this baler, or JD changed the chain and sprockets during the production of it at some point and the parts guy was looking at the wrong sheet....
Or something....
