My very dependable 14T keeps shearing roll pin on pto inside the slip clutch. I'm getting pretty good at fixing but wonder if I have other options. Can I use a different shear pin or bolt? Is there a way to eliminate the slip clutch and go with just a shear pin that is readily accessible? Any ideas, Thanks

Everything is worn. Here is the free JD parts manual. I don't know how much can be purchased new and what could be machined square and true again. We need the parts book number to know which dohickythingmajigger you are talking about.
Adobe page 39 to obtain page 38 in the parts book.
Mother Deere would not install a slip clutch if it was not required.

Which pin are you shearing? If it's parts key 6 I'll guess slip clutch isn't slipping as in STUCK or pto is being engaged at too high rpm's. Does woodruff key get sheared also?

Thanks..I'm going to take slip clutch apart again and check for Woodruff key. I don't recall ever seeing one. The roll pin I replaced is #6 This baler sees minimal use each(usually because something breaks and I can"t figure it out quickly so I round bale the rest) It has never clogged or anything that might engage the slipclutch. I try to have my operator start only at low rpm and he shuts off on turns. I'll report after I disassemble the slip clutch. I just downloaded the entire parts catalog for the 14t should have done this years ago!!

Why are you shutting it off on turns?

not sure why we started shutting off pto when turning.

Possibly less wear on u-joints(rattling) by pto not turning in turns.

I think the noise was the issue. Just left JD parts with woodruffkey, grooved pin and roll pin as per diagram. Leaving work early to disassemble slip clutch. I think clutch is working-any way to tell from looking at the pieces?

The baler driveline is eating your clutch and pin parts because the driveline angles/lengths are not correct. Either the tractor drawbar is not set to the right height or length or the baler driveshaft is out of position (rotary position). The manual shows the proper spacing, and heights for the 14T driveline. Even when set properly, I can get some chattering. Also check the chain that goes from the clutch up to the flywheel gearbox. If it's loose, the thing whill chatter like a Detroit backyard picnic.

Pto may have been re-assembled out of phase at some time . This will add pulsing shock loads to the baler during turns. Possibly part of the problem besides all the start - stops. Or the driver needs to plan thier turns better.
If somebody lost the operator's manual. Call 1-800-522-7448. After reading it from front to back you will say several times " I did not know that".
