15" X 20' culvert

Re: 15\" X 20\' culvert

I recently installed a 10 inch x 40 ft. culvert. I used a steel culvert to cross my drive and attached a plastic one to reach a ditch 20 ft away. I don't know what brand they were, I just saw culverts advertised in the yellow pages and went to look at them. I used steel to cross the road because I knew that I could only put 4 inches of chert on top of it and I was afraid that plastic would not be strong enough being that shallow. The plastic pipe had a "bell" on one end which fit perfectly over the metal culvert. I had to do a little grinding on the ragged edges first, but it worked fine. I have another all metal culvert with two 20 ft. sections. I just wrapped some sheet metal around those to make a connection. They probably make some kind of sleeve for that purpose but I have never seen one.

I don't think the different brands will matter. I used to put pipes in for Texas County MO and we bought them where ever they were cheapest. There are or were connectors that you can buy seperate.

I'm needing 5 maybe 6 20 foot joints of 15" diameter plastic double wall smooth bore.
At $116 a joint the cost gets up there.

Any tips on how or where I might find it for less ?

Yep. Check with the road maintenance section of your township/municipality. Around here, they go in with several other towns to order pipe and stuff. By doing so, they can buy/order in quantity and get better pricing.

It was a year or 2 ago but I got the same pipe through them for $4.19/foot ($82.80 for 20' sections) and they delivered (stopped by my house coming back from picking up a load and threw 7 sections off the trailer for me).

Re: 15\" X 20\' culvert

We've got a local store that sells logging tools and equipment and their plastic culvert is pretty reasonable. If you've got a store like this near you, they might be worth checking.
