Was walking thru a store in Paducah yesterday when I met a friend and his granddaughter. He introduced her as the Kentucky State Pistol Champion. She is 15 years old. He showed some videos of her hitting a playing card EDGEWISE on the first shot at 50-feet. I couldn't see one edgewise at fifty feet. Then videos of her shooting the flames off candles. She shoots some type of pistol that I had never heard of. Granddad said it was very expensive and that he bought it for her. She had on a CCI jacket and uses standard velocity CCI ammo in her shooting. Very personable, very beautiful young lady who stood and chatted with my wife while grandpa bragged on her. Saw a couple of grins and eye rolls behind his back. Having three granddaughters myself I was very pleased to see the affection between the two.

Girl wants to attend the local Murray State University because they have one of the best shooting teams in the country. Then she wants to be a teacher.

Steve also showed me a picture of another former co-worker and his $50,000 (I questioned him twice on the price) single shot 22 rifle. Guy uses it in competitions. Only uses Finish Lapua long rifle ammo.

Wow, very nice!

She sounds like future Olympic material! I'll bet that team doesn't disrespect our county.

Personally I can't see the need for a $50,000 rifle. I can miss just as well with a 10/22, LOL. But then I didn't start shooting until I was 38 years old.

I shoot 50 foot indoor handgun small caliber match and I've found over the years that the younger set are consistently the best shots in competition.

They can still see the target.

I started shooting when I was about six years old. When I once shot a bird with a 22 rifle perched at the top of tree from about 100 feet away, my grandfather made me go find it. I did and then he had my grandmother cook it for my dinner. I never shot anything else but targets until I was 14 and went deer hunting with my dad. I got a buck from about 100 yards with an open sight 30-30. And he was on the run down a slope parallel to me. My dad said he's never seen a better shot. That was my last hunting trip. That was about 57 years ago.

Congratulations to your granddaughter and best wishes to you. Youth does have some significant advantages--physically better sight, less (or no) tremor; mentally fewer of cares of life to distract their concentration.

I have a great great nephew who has three deer this year with an AR-15. According to his family, all hunters, he is the best shot out of a eleven of them. He is seven years old.

Not my granddaughter, a friend's grand. Though I would claim her. As my wife remarked, the young lady could be a beauty queen instead of a sharp shooter.
