Energy tripling in price in just over a year? I don't even want to think about it's current price and the effects of that price still to come...at $100.

The stars have aligned badly...VERY badly...

And yet our dedicated elite representatives in DC won't let drilling for oil anywhere in the US, they won't let any new refineries, no nuclear plants and are pushing environmental laws that will strangle the US economy. It will get worse in 2009 if the Dem's win the presidency when they raise the tax of fuels to pay for health care for those who don't work and voted for them.

Our local county highway dept has spent nearly 1/4 million dollars so far on diesel fuel for winter road maintenance whereas last year it was only about 1/2 of that. They have had to cut back on employees and overtime yet we have another month of winter.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling. Just how many economies 'melted down' in the 70s when prices more than tripled, in much less than 1 year, plus there were shortages? Good grief.

What's with you? Is it just me? You disagree with everything I say...it really makes you look ignorant because your facts are severely lacking.

The oil crisis in the 70s was a SHORT TERM problem caused by OPEC deciding to use oil as a political weapon. They decided they'd not sell oil to supporters of Israel. Oil DID go up a LOT...BUT...and this is important...it went back DOWN fairly quickly (the embargo lasted only 6 months) and in the 80s there was an oil glut resulting in VERY cheap energy.

How many economies "melted down" back then...well it sure didn't HELP ours much did it? IF the cost of oil had stayed high, it probably would have "melted down". How long would people have been willing to wait in those gas lines? Certainly NOT for years and years... How much inflation could we stand from high energy prices?

I don't mind your disagreeing...but the way your posts (mostly to me) are written...well it makes you look like a real *******. An IGNORANT *******...

Now don't go crying and have me banned... Act like a jerk, get treated like a jerk. My opinion is just a valuable as anyone else's. So please stick to the issue and leave the personal attacks out OK?

Wait a minute...I remember you...you're the waitress guy aren't you? Couldn't stand it when I "won" the tipping debate I guess...holding a grudge? Let it go, it's not worth it.

I have facts and it's nothing to do with ancient threads. I have an issue with fear mongers with no facts. Plus I have no need to resort to profanity. You let it go. Here are the FACTS abour price/barrel in the 70s. Where did the price go down? It didn't. Oh look. The price almost doubled between 78 and 79.

You're the one who doesn't use facts. Just fear and profanity.

As I said in another thread, plenty of facts also plenty of hyperbole and fear.

People are entitled to their own opinions, not their own facts.

1970 $3.39
1971 $3.60
1972 $3.60
1973 $4.75
1974 $9.35
1975 $12.21
1976 $13.10
1977 $14.40
1978 $14.95
1979 $25.10

Rather then discuss the political aspects of the issue, how about we look at what we are doing to minimize the effects it will have on each of us.
I installed a wood pellet stove a couple of years ago and it has reduced our oil bill, but more importantly, it has reduced our overall heating costs. We also have a wood stove (using right now) but we have limited access to wood without buying it. The handy thing about pellets is the ability leave it on all day on low.

Rent the video "Crude Awakening". See if you believe it. I found it pretty factual after some checking.
Better yet. Have some friends over and watch it with them. Discuss what each is going to do.
We did, and here are a couple of the reactions. One guy just installed a geothermal heat pump for 15K. That is for a 3 Ton and his entire heat/cool bill was only $1200/yr. I guess it will cut his bill in half.
