Hey all, well time for some oil and hydro fluid changes on my 08 1528, as discussed earlier with hydro fluid most are using the Permatran 3 and some any good quality SAE 80 GL4, I would like to know about filters, there are 2 I have to change in the hydro system, the one by the trany ( @ 8$) and one for steering (@ 65$) I want to know if you all use OEM massey filters or are there any generic filters available. My problem is that the massey supplier (store) is quite a ways away so If I can find good replacement filters locally it would much easier, like from an auto or truck part store??? Same thing goes for the engine oil and filter?? What are you guys using?? Thx a bunch

Hey,

We did the 200 hour service on our 1635 yesterday. It is a 1635 Power shuttle. Decided after last winter that we were going to run Petro Canada Duratran synthetic. Got 2 20L pails for $7.09/L. Also have samples of the Permatran, that I am sending in to Toromont for analysis. Will do the same with the Duratran at the next interval.

Got the spin on filter from the dealer, as there is NOT one for the afterrmarket. In our case, the filter in the belly is washable, which is what we did, since it costs $162 to replace, but replacement is not necessary.

Oil filters, I just get them from the dealer. Can't find a Donaldson or Baldwin cross #, and will NOT RUN WIX or Napa crap on anything we own.

You can have your MF dealer ship the filters to you. We put enough hours on to do 2 oil changes per year. I run Rotella T6 from late fall till spring, then I run a 15W40 semi synthetic. Going to try and find a 15W40 full synthetic for next spring.

You are not obligated to use Permatran, but should use something of equal quality or better. Because of this wonderful thing called the internet :) I have found a few folks who run Duratran in their tractors with no issues that could be blamed on the oil. One is a dairy farmer North of Thunder Bay, ON. Also know that the loggers in the North run it too. Petro Canada makes a quality product, and I will report back the first COLD day on the performance of the oil. The reason for the Duratran is our COLD winters, will be much easier on the trans this way.

And for your front diff, I run an EP Synthetic gear oil, 75W90 is what we used.

Thanks Will for all the information, very interesting and appreciated. Mine is hydrostatic and I have 2 filters to replace for the hydro fluid, the spin on and a cartridge type which I don't think mine is washable, I wish tho.....:)
