I did some shredding this morning, parked the tractor to run into town, and when I got home, I noticed a puddle under the tractor. Started looking and found diesel leaking from the top of the fuel bowl. I took it off, couldn't find any chips or cracks, and since it was getting pretty close to time to change filters I went into the shop and grabbed a new filter, and a new O ring. Put everything back on, and it still seems to be leaking from where the bowl (o ring) seals against the housing. Tried playing with different levels of tightness, no luck.

I guess I'm going to surf over to Hoye to buy another bowl, but seem strange that it should just start leaking with no apparent damage.

Oh well.

Are all of your bleed screws tight? When you removed the bowl, did you check for any gunk that may not be letting the o-ring seat correctly?

Sorry, should have mentioned that... yeah, cleaned everything where the bowl seals against the housing, everything is tight.

Hmmm. The new filter was the last one of several I had stocked up on from napa when they were on sale. Didn't quite fit right, but they had always sealed with a little "adjustment." Since I've got some new filters from Hoye that are actually for the 1500D, I just tried one of them... and it was too long as well. Perhaps this is not the right fuel bowl for this tractor, and I was just lucky to get it to seal before. Either way, I just ordered a new bowl, and we'll see how that works.

I had the same problem on my 2210 last year. I filled up the tank and cut grass and then I went to work the next day and bragged about how little fuel I was using and the very next time I started the tractor I was amost out of fuel! I filled up again and the bowl started to leak out the top somewhere, changed filters, and O ring and it still leaked! got fed up and just ordered a new one. That worked great. Kept the old bowl and had to use one of the bleed screws out of it as the one on my injector pump crumbled with a slight twist of the screw driver. Good to go now.
have fun.

Could it be that the gas tanks is not venting correctly? If the fuel cap tank vent was plugged up a little and the sun expanded the gas in the tank at a rapid rate, could the seal on the bowl be the weak point? Just an idea.

I'm sure you probably have checked but- be sure that all of the old filter was completely removed from the valve. I have seen the rubber gasket or even the entire top of the old filter get stuck in the valve which is hard to see up in there. This keeps the new filter from sliding all the way up into the valve which keeps the bowl from going on all the way.

If that is all ok then it might just be one of those mysterious shrinking bowl cases that have been discussed here before.

Yeah, looked and cleaned everything to be sure, still no luck. However, the UPS tracking site says that the parts I ordered from you should be here this afternoon, so thanks for the quick service!

If you have a clear bowl, then I would say it was a hairline crack where the bowl lip joins the rest of the bowl. Very hard to see, but will leak very well.

Okay, got the new bowl today. The old one _is_ smaller than the new one, and the o ring is much more snug on the new one. Slapped the new bowl on, and no leaks. Also, it seems that the tractor does not bog down quite as much after the machine is good and warm.

Thanks for all of the replies and the help.
