Well spring is almost here in east TN and I need to get my 1510 ready. I plan on doing the normal fluid and filters and grease job but also have a few other things that I may need some help on.

1. I was thinking about checking the valve adjustments but don't have a manual and really haven't ever seen the top end of one of these engines. Do they use solid lifiters? What is the valve lash spec? Are they adjustable or shimmed? Anyone care to give me a short procedure?

2. I have some slop in my steering shaft. Not rotational but can actually wiggle the shaft quite a bit. Has anyone ever seen this problem? I'm sure I can start taking things apart and figure it out but it never hurts to ask for advise.

3. My exhaust manifold gasket is blown out. When I bought the tractor it was missing a few bolts on the manifold and blew the gasket. Does anyone know who may have one of these in stock? Will a diesel burn a valve like a gas engine can with a manifold leak? I'm going to fix it anyway but just want to know if there could be some damage.

4. This tractor does not have a draw bar/trailer hitch. It looks like when they modified it for a 3-point they removed it and put a blank block of iron with rings welded in for chain restraints. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement? Does anyone have a photo of a 1510 draw bar arrangement? Anyother models have the same setup?

5. Last summer I pulled the hydralic screen and it was loaded with quite a bit of junk. I wasn't able to get it completely clean. I'd like to replace it. Is there a cross ref. to a more common screen that will work? If Yanmar specific does anyone know someone who carries them?

Thanks for all the help.

Dave

A lot of your questions are ones I'd like to be more knowledgeable on also. I have a 1500 (not 1510) but can send a picture of the drawbar attachment. You can then tell if it is similar to your set-up. Now if I can just get the time to take the photo with 3 children 3 and under at home!

I would highly recommend ordering a parts manual from one of these dealers. Even though in Japanese, you will get blown up parts pictures and #'s, that will be a great help in repair and parts ordering. You can get the part before tearing it down.
I am also a strong believer in "never kick a sleeping dog" and "if it ain't broke don't fix it". If the valves are quiet and it runs good, I wouldn't even remove the valve cover to check. Spend your time on things that require lube, that you can't see, such as front wheel bearings and steering box.

So far every tractor I have checked the valves on didn't need any adjustment. Hoye has some manuals translated to English and I am almost sure the 1510 is one of them. The slop right under the steering wheel takes a $48 bushing to fix. I take a piece of 1/2 M copper tubing about 3/4" long and flare the end. Then split it. You can take off the wheel and tap it between the shaft and the worn bushing. It has worked every time for me.

Good advise on the valves. I may just leave it for another time. On the steering shaft. What I am seeing is the actual outer tube "wiggles" at the base. I can move to column about 1/2" at the top. Is this what you are talking about? Is the bushing under the wheel (at the top of the shaft) or at the bottom at the stearing "box"?

Thanks
Dave

Well I figured out what was going on with the steering. At the bottom of the steering shaft is a BIG nut that threads into the steering gearbox. The shaft is welded to this nut. This weld has sheared all the way around. Doesn't seem like it will be that big of a deal to pull the shaft and re-weld.
