Yep, that's the one. Check the Product Profile, (JD303).

The spec that we often quote and what these tractors should take is the JD303 spec. But as was brought up in anot her recent thread, what does that (jd303) spec really mean, as it is an obsolete 50 year old spec that you can't actually legally make since it contained whale oil. Now you can say exceeds it I guess but again no one tests that it does meet that.

But honestly about any tractor/transmission universal fluid that you can buy now a days which calls itself 303 fluid will be fine. Pretty much any modern tractor fluid will be more than sufficient, whether it be JD Hy Gaurd or kubota UDT or whatever then brand it will be fine.

Automatic transmission fluid also will work fine in these tractors....I have used it in my 186D before.

You are correct. But for the simple geared transmission, not the power shift I personally unless I was in extreme cold would not consider that, since I can buy a 5 gallon bucket of tractor transmission fluid for $20-30.

But you are correct you certainly can use ATF.

Yea...it's an option if you have trouble getting the tractor fluid...best to go with the tractor fluid.
