I have noticed that my front axle will pivot from the center. Is this movement normal or is this mount worn?

Most probably normal, there is a limited amount tho, about 1" each way IIRC.....

The front axle on my 1500D pivots up and down. This allows the front wheels to remain in contact with the ground while going over uneven terrain. If the axle was fixed you would get one wheel sticking up in the air going over the rough stuff. Having a front differential, this tire would have the power transferred to it causing it to spin around and be rather unhelpful in getting you where you want to go. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I understand the up down pivot and why but this is a side to side pivot. For example I can grab a front tire and push it forwards or backwards and it will move the entire axle pivoting at the center. Does this sound normal?

park your tractor on concrete and turn off the engine, turn the steering wheel right & left. If there is a lot of play & a big clunk sound it can be adjusted .
Do you have a manual?

I had the same problem on my little 1110D. Assuming your tractor is simular, here is what I found to be worn: There is a single pin which holds the axle on. This pin is held in with 4 bolts. The pin passes through the axle housing and loosely fits the welded frame. The axle housing has two bronze bushings in it which are lubricated with splashed axle oil. There is no provision to grease the bushings which was a mistake on Yanmar's part. I needed to replace the bushings and the pin. I was able to find a comparable oil bearing bushing from my local bearing store. The pin was a 45 day Japan order item. I took a piece of 4140 round bar to a local machine shop and them turn it to the correct diameter. I then cut the weld off the old pin and welded the new onto the existing plate. These changes tightened up the axle nicely.

No, I don't have a service manual yet. Do you sell them? I do have a operating manual for a YM187D, which I understand is very similar to the YM1510D.

Thanks for the info Cord, I will check it out.

Do you think the pin from a 1510 2wd would work.
I have one in the parts yard

Ernie, you have vastly more experience than I do, but I'd bet that it would fit. Yanmar proably uses the same front frame and axle attachment method for both 4wd and 2wd. When you pull the pin, check to see if it has been cut down. On my pin there was only slight wear from the bushings. Enough that you could see the impression. The slop came from the rear frame support. That point had cut in a good 1/8". Luckly the frame it's self wasn't too badly worn. If it was I would have pulled the frame (not as easy as it looks), drilled the holes oversize and inserted a steel bushing. The problem would have been chucking the frame into a drill press. It would have pretty tough to do right.

Try pulling the shims out from behind the plate with 4 bolts and retightening. I have a box full of them from adjusting the slack out of front ends.
