I've got it as low to the ground as I can get. I'm running on slowest PTO speed. When I speed upn the PTO, I get too much vibration. Any suggestions? Special blades?

brotherjohn:

Is that a brush cutter of a finish mower?

If it's a brush cutter, I don't think you can mulch with them. Blade speed is too low.

I have had vibration on my brush cutters before. Two things were the cause for me, a bolt somewhere was loose or grass around one blade and it wouln't swing freely

brotherjohn,

I don't think you'll find a rotary cutter to do anything more than knock down overgrown areas, small shrub and trees under 1 1/2". A useful and powerful tool for land seldom used or neglected.

You might consider a finish mower to achieve better results.

As the others have said, rotary cutters don't mulch: however I'm assuming you are complaining about leaving those windrows when you mow. There are a couple of things that help. Adjust the mower so it is higher in front than back so it has to cut the weeds twice, (takes more power that way). Also you will notice the cut weeds are thrown to one side from the rear. Mow in the direction that will cause the mown weeds to be thrown onto un-cut weeds so they will be mown again.

I have always herd the other way around with the brush cutter lower in the front than the back by about and inch or two. It help with the clogging up the mower by easing the discharge.

If it is the clippings and the look that are bothering him, two things will help sharping the blades with a grinder and hit them every once an a while to keep sharp and mow more often, then again Brush hogs arn't for lawn grass

If you keep them sharp and mow often, they do a pretty good job on lawn. But let them go and not sharpen them, or let the grass get real tall, they aren't very good.

I only mow 3 time a year and it works for me by cutting the clippings up finer:, however I don't use it that way bacause it tends to bog/slow the tractor down. I read about it in an article somewhere and thought I would try it. I never have a problem with the mower clogging either way.
