First, I agree with whoever it was that commented on the torque required to remove the two oil drain plugs. Not to mention that it took a bit of effort to persuade the oil filler plug to leave its cast iron well. (Did that BEFORE I drained the oil - Just in case.)
OK, I am no diesel mechanic and have changed oil in exactly one other diesel engine a few times. Each time, the oil came out black as tar and you really didn't want to get it on anything that you didn't want to be colored by that inky stuff.
When I removed the right-side drain plug on my 1533 and saw the beautifully clean, amber colored fluid flowing into the drain pan, my first thought was, "Oh BLEEP, that's the wrong plug!"
But, it wasn't. That really was the oil from my 1533's engine. Yes, the magnetic drain plugs had a nice coating of black material sorta like graphite. But, the oil . . . The oil was so clean that I strained a gallon of it and plan to use it for utility purposes.
So, being a first-time Mahindra oil changer, why was it's oil so clean compared to the oil that came out of my former F-450 flatbed dump? I know the oil only had just under 50 hours on it. But, still, it's a diesel and, based my limited experience, it wasn't supposed to look like that.
Anyone done the 400 hour change? How did the oil look then?
By the way, before posting I did several searches on this subject and all returned 1600+ results. Many were new posts that had nothing to do with this topic. I think the search function is OTL. Anyhow, I apologize if this has been discussed previously.
