Looking at the two tractors, there's a 3HP difference at PTO; 38 and 41. I've not priced either of them yet, but have been looking at cab tractors. They both take the same loader, so that's a wash. What's the difference other than the HP? I'm not really sure I want to drop 7-10 PTO HP on the trade from my 1455v.
Hydraulic flow is less on the 1547, so I'm guessing the loader operation will be a little slower than the 1552.

Massey's website indicates the weight of the two is the same.
Price differences?

Has anyone really ever said "Gee, out of the two tractors I looked at, I'm thinking now that I should have bought the smaller one..."?

Not me! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The point is that there is very little difference in the two tractors that I can see. And as I posted, only 3PTOHP difference which is negligible.
I haven’t priced them yet, but the similarity makes me curious as to why Massey would come out with two models so close in size/power ratings.
I would prefer to keep the HP that I have with my 1455v, but that’s not offered with a cab...so buy one of these or look to other brands.

My point is, based on your comments, you appear to be concerned about the lower HP and loader operation. That said, buy the bigger one.

If your comments were along the lines of "My 1455 is much more tractor than I need for my property, etc." I'd say buy the smaller one.

My experience is I usually buy what I think I need and then end up wishing I had bought something bigger (more HP, etc.)

They both take the same loader, so that's a wash.

Since they both take the same loader the HP difference should have little noticeable effect on loader capacity. Published tractor weight is the same for both.
I generally agree with you that bigger is better, but in this case it will definitely depend on the prices of the two. How much is 3PTO HP worth? And are there differences that I failed to notice?

My experience is I usually buy what I think I need and then end up wishing I had bought something bigger (more HP, etc.)

And this is a dilemma when looking to trade from 48PTO HP. Will I be satisfied going to the lower HP models? May look at the Utility models...

Glenn,
Normally if Massey has two tractors with that close of HP and the same series, one of them will have several things that isn't available on the other. I don't know enough about the large frame 1500s to be able to tell you what though.

Percentage wise going from 38 hp to 41 hp is almost a 10% increase which is a pretty big jump. I believe the pump size is the same for both models.

If I was you I would look at the owners book that comes with the tractors (1533 up is the same book) You WILL see there is just more then a 3hp difference with the 2 you are talking talking about.

I am sure your dealer wont have a problem letting you see that book for a day or 2. After looking at the book, I would bet you will go bigger.
