The air intake hose (rubber flat to round shaped hose the starts above the radiator and ends at the air cleaner canister) on the NH 1630 I oversee at work is shot. It's been patched with tape, but it's really done for. A new one from CNH is $179! Is this piece really necessary? Any clever solutions to replacing this, if necessary?

The latest Blackstone oil report for this machine shows that silicon levels are high (20). Universal avg. is 8 for this Shibaura engine family. I haven't seen any damage to the hose that goes between the air cleaner and the engine, but I'm not sure where else it could be sucking dirty air. Air filters have less than 300 hours and have been cleaned a few times. I'm going to replace them anyways, though.
